Pulling Focus: Washington, DC Cinema History

Bring Back ‘The Strand’ As A Theater

Ward 7 is a ‘cultural desert.’ There are too few restaurants and there are no cinemas, cultural spaces for visual art exhibitions, lectures, or even live performances. The few remaining historic theaters buildings are unrecognizable, their original glory and purpose long forgotten. They are raggedy monuments to another era when the exact same neighborhoods were more economically empowered, less racially diverse, and considered far more desirable.

There are many film lovers and live music lovers who live East of the River. Could we bring back ‘The Strand’ as a theater?
